Avengers Infinity War EXTENDED edition: There’s half an HOUR more of Thanos backstory
Marvel fans will remember Avengers Infinity War’s run time as the longest MCU movie to date at two hours and forty minutes.
But now it turns out there’s around half an hour more in terms of Thanos’ backstory and origin that was cut.
Collider’s Jon Schnepp discovered the news when moderating a panel at Las Vegas Comic Con with Thanos creator Jim Starlin.
The comic book writer and artist was told by Marvel Studios: “We have to cut out a lot of the Thanos backstory. We’re cutting out like 30 minutes of Thanos’ backstory – his origin.”
While this may have made sense for a theatrical release, it now looks like an extended edition of Avengers Infinity War will be making its way to home release, according to Starlin.
Schnepp continued: “Jim Starlin found out that they’re actually going to put it into a special edition on Avengers: Infinity War.
“They weren’t going to be seen as deleted scenes, they’re actually going to be re-integrated into the film.”
Such a move would no doubt be very popular with fans, giving further insight into Thanos’ motivations for saving the universe by murdering half of it.
However in a recent interview directors The Russo Brothers said the Avengers 4 title is never spoken in Infinity War.
Pushed further, Anthony Russo elaborated: “It’s certainly grounded in the narrative that we have been following throughout the MCU – very well grounded.”
Of course the filmmakers could be redirecting fans away from the truth, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Avengers 4 is released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
