What will Kate Middleton wear for Prince Louis’ christening? Will she follow this formula?

Kate Middleton will celebrate the christening of her third child, Prince Louis, this coming Monday.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be pictured alongside Prince William by the world’s media at the important event.

But what will the stylish royal wear for the occasion? We can look to the christenings of her two older children, Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 3, for a huge clue.

It might be easier than you think to guess – as Kate wore exactly the same designers for the last two christenings.

For Prince George’s christening, she wore a creamy white Alexander McQueen dress with ruffle detail.

Alexander McQueen is a favourite of the Duchess, and she wore a gown by this designer for her royal wedding in 2011.

Since her wedding, she has worn the designer on a number of occasions, including the royal wedding of Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33.

Kate paired this with a hat by milliner Jane Taylor which had a mesh detail.

For Princess Charlotte’s christening, Kate wore exactly the same combination of milliner, dress designer and shoe designer.

She wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen coat dress in a pale cream shade.

It had a fitted bodice and wide lapels which flattered her figure just two months after she gave birth to Charlotte.

According to forecasts, the current heatwave will continue into next week, with highs of 29 degrees on 9 July, the day of the christening.

Therefore, Kate will be looking to wear something cool and light to the event.

It is even easier to guess what Prince Louis will wear, as he will follow in royal tradition.

He will wear the same christening gown as his older brother, Prince George, 4, and his older sister, Princess Charlotte, 3, wore for their christenings.

The Spitalfields lace gown is a replica of one commissioned by Queen Victoria for her daughter Princess Victoria in 1941.

Why wasn’t Charlotte baptised at Chapel Royal like her brothers? Prince Louis will be christened at the Royal Chapel, just like Prince George was, but Princess Charlotte’s christening took place somewhere else.

Princess Charlotte was instead baptised at the Church of St Mary Magdalene at Sandringham.

There is, however, a sentimental reason why Charlotte’s parents may have chosen for her to be christened at Sandringham.

The church is where Princess Diana was baptised on 30 August 1961. Charlotte’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, and her middle name “Diana” is a tribute to her late grandmother.
