Megan Is Missing: The disturbing horror BANNED for ‘graphic violence’ and ‘disgusting’ end

Directed by Michael Goi, the film is a deeply disturbing psychological horror that proved so divisive it was even banned in New Zealand.

It’s not currently streaming on Netflix in the UK, and it’s unavailable for digital purchase on Amazon Video.

But amid online discussion this week, demand for it on Google has soared this week – and people have been watching it in full for the first time.

Safe to say, they’ve been left incredibly shaken.

The movie is about the days leading up to the disappearance of Megan Stewart, a high school student; and the efforts of her friend Amy to find her.

Things turn incredibly graphic and violent towards the end, with critics slamming it for its exploitative nature, and for portraying graphic physical and sexual violence against young teenage characters, as well as torture.

New Zealand banned it in October 2011, classifying it as “objectionable”.

They are reported to have taken issue with the fact the film seems to “relish in the spectacle of [a] three-minute rape scene”.

New audiences have been finding the film in recent weeks, and have been posting about how distressing the movie is.

“someone made a facebook post about the movie ‘megan is missing’ and of course they posted the pic of megan’s dead body in the barrel,” posted one person.

“I hate that f**king movie man it’s so scary and disturbing….it’s really the worst thing i’ve ever seen.”

Another person raged: “whoever told me to watch megan is missing; F**k the F***ing F**k Off.”

“I heard about this supposed “F**KING INSANE!” movie called ‘Megan is Missing’. But it is triggering as f**k,” warned a third. “Seriously please don’t watch if you can’t handle the situations.”

“Why did I just put myself through torture watching Megan is missing… oh my goodness,” read an additional post.
