Top Gun 2 location: Where is Top Gun sequel filmed?
Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role as Maverick for the aptly titled Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the first 1980s blockbuster.
While few details have been leaked, besides the slim cast list, there is one piece of information available.
Where is Top Gun 2 being filmed?
The answer is short and sweet: San Diego, California.
The city, south of Los Angeles, has a military base being used for filming.
TMZ recently reported Tom Cruise was spotted riding solo on a motorcycle at the base.
There is also a photo of a jet, presumably being used in the sequel whose filming began on May 30, 2018.
The first Top Gun movie was not filmed in San Diego, but a couple of states over.
Most of the sequences of the aircraft manoeuvring over land were shot at NAS Fallon, in Nevada, using ground-mounted cameras.

However, Kansas City Barbeque was the location for two of Top Gun’s most famous scenes.
The first features Goose and Maverick singing “Great Balls of Fire” while seated at the piano.
The second scene shot at Kansas City barbeque is, in fact, the final scene of Top Gun, where “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'” can be heard on the restaurant’s jukebox.
The restaurant collected plenty of memorabilia from Top Gun but a kitchen fire in 2008 destroyed much of the restaurant.
Some memorabilia and props, including the original piano used in the movie, were salvaged and the restaurant re-opened in November 2008.
Cruise is known for doing most of his own stunts and it’s highly unlikely this will change come Top Gun: Maverick’s release.
The sequel will explore a world of drone technology, fifth-generation fighters and the end of the era of dog-fighting.
Cruise is starring alongside Top Gun alum Val Kilmer as Iceman.
Miles Teller has been cast as Goose’s son, while Goose (who met his demise during the original Top Gun) actor Anthony Edwards has yet to be confirmed for a ‘ghost goose’ appearance.
Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled for release on July 12, 2019.
