Star Wars 9 DISASTER: Mark Hamill is NOT back as Luke? New pictures
What the Force is going on?
Fans have tried to make their peace with teh double blow of losing Carrie Fisher and so losing Princess Leia. Many are still unhappy that Harrison Ford appeared to dictate terms and make his exit at the end of The Force Awakens.
Even more are unhappy that Rian Johnson decided to kill off Luke at the end of The Last Jedi.
All hopes rested on some sort of Force Ghost cameo but do these new pictures reveal that Hamill and Luke are not coming back after all?
JJ Abrams has been clear that he intends to work in Original Trilogy themes as he brings the entire nine-movie cycle to an end, despire Rian Johnson’s overall message that the past needed to die.
Hamill himself has been evasive about whether he will be back, telling Collider: “I don’t know. I’m the last to know.”
He has struggled to hide his unhappiness with what has been done to Luke in the new trilogy and also told another interviewer: “You were asking earlier, ‘Are you gonna come back?’ I don’t care anymore, on that level. Because Han Solo is gone, Luke is gone.”
STAR WARS BACKLASH: DIRECTOR AGREES RIAN JOHNSON GOT IT WRONG?
The star just posted new images on Twitter and he has shaved off that Luke Skywalker beard. The images were celebrating a new cane topped with Hamill’s iconic Joker, the character he voices in the DC animations.
However, it is impossible to ignore that this has happened just as Episode IX is expected to start filming.
This could mean one of three things.
The first, and worst, is that he has moved on and will not return for Episode IX. After all, if he comes back as a Force Ghost it should be as we last saw Luke, surely?
Well, yes and no. Anakin’s Force Ghost was famously David Prowse who played the older Anakin trapped inside Darth Vader at teh moment of his death. But tis was retroactively changed to Hayden Christensen’s much younger incarnation.
So far Obi-Wan’s Force ghost remain Alec Guinness not Ewan McHregor.
Perhaps JJ Abrams will show a younger, beardless Luke?
There are also reports of more flashbacks or Force visions, which could show the younger Luke.
The third possibility is that Hamill will only cameo and so his scenes can be filmed towards the end of the shoot, months from now, giving him time to regrow the beard.
Only one thing is sure: if Lucasfilm think fans are unhappy with some of the content of The Last Jedi, they will be facing a full-blown revolution if the face of the entire saga does not appear in the final film.
