Cats the musical FILM with Taylor Swift, James Corden, Ian McKellen – Who sings Memory?
It’s one of the most iconic shows of all time.
Now the feline phenomenon will be prowling nto teh big screen in a major Hollywood movie with A-list stars already lined up.
Industry bible Variety reported that pop superstar Taylor Swift is on board, alongside Corden, McKellen and Jennifer Hudson.
After vocal giants like Elaine Paige and Nicole Scherzinger took on the mighty Memory, who will step into the hallowed paws of Grizabella?
Swift may have sold millions of records but she is not know for her powerful voice, so musical fans will be thrilled to learn that Hudson will take on the classic role. The Oscar-winning star already dazzled in Dream Girls, another tragic, tormented part with a killer ballad.
As yet, there has been no confirmation on which roles her fellow stars will play.
The musical will be adapted by the powerhouse team at Working Title that also brought Les Miserables so spectacularly to the screen.
Variety said: “Tom Hooper, the Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech, will direct Cats, which is set to begin shooting in Britain in November.
“The screenplay by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) is based on Lloyd Webber’s musical, which was itself adapted from a book of children’s poems by T.S. Eliot.”
Cats opened in London in 1981 and a year later on Broadway.
As well as smashing preconceptions about the way a musical should look and be staged, it broke box office records and remains one of the most beloved and successful shows of all time.
