When French fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus sent models down the runway in wide-brimmed, floppy straw hats at his Spring Summer 2018 show earlier this year, I doubt even he saw the viral trend he was seeding.

However, as stars hit the beach this summer and fill Instagram with pictures of themselves poolside in Jacquemus’s designs, which cost about £200, it is clear the love for oversized summer hats knows no bounds, much like their brims.

Most recently championed by the likes of Cher and Jennifer Lopez, stars have taken to the look.

The perfect combination of ultra glamorous style while offering great protection from the sun, it is little wonder that A-listers have opted for this striking piece of headwear.

The wide brim silhouette has been a hit with the high street too as brands rush to capitalise on the must-have hat.

From purse friendly versions at the likes of ASOS and Topshop to designer splurges at Net-a-Porter, it seems there is an oversized hat for every budget this season.
