Ant-Man and the Wasp director CONFIRMS Captain America cameo was SCRAPPED
Next week Ant-Man’s solo sequel finally hits UK cinemas a month after the USA.
The film is set just before the events of Avengers Infinity War, revealing what Ant-Man and the Wasp were up to having not appeared in the Marvel epic.
But now the sequel’s director has revealed that Chris Evans’ Captain America himself almost made a cameo.
Speaking with the Radio Times, Reed explained how Luis was going to do one of his flashbacks covering the events of Captain America: Civil War, which featured Ant-Man.
The director said: “Early on, we had a version where we were going to do a quick version of the tarmac fight from Civil War.
“[But] with some ridiculous thing where, you know, Captain America has Ant-Man as a baseball and throws him.
“Because the whole thing is Luis’ version of events, right?”
“We came up with all these ridiculous visuals.”
DID DOCTOR STRANGE’S ENDGAME BEGIN IN ANT-MAN AND THE WASP’S END CREDITS SCENE?
However the scene was scrapped, with Reed and team thinking it would be a bit much.
He added: “It kind of felt like we’d referenced Captain America: Civil War so much, let’s just do our own thing there.”
Fans will remember Anthony Mackie’s Falcon cameoed in the first Ant-Man movie, but Reed feels that was warranted.
He said: “You know in the first movie it felt organic to us because that sort of had the structure of a heist movie, and this sort of trial by fire that we had to send Scott Lang, maybe not fully prepared, into: go to Avengers headquarters.”
Reed added: “I think it was [screenwriter] Adam McKay who maybe first came up with the idea of introducing Falcon in the first movie.
“Just because as kids we loved the Falcon!” he reflected. “But here, it just didn’t feel organic to the story.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp is released in UK cinemas on August 3, 2018.
