Will Venom be rated 15? Will Venom be rated PG-13 in the USA?

Venom has yet to receive a confirmed classification, but here’s what we know so far.

Though the character is well known and loved, the movie may not be suitable for some kids who want to see him take the big screen by storm.

When Venom was first announced, the descriptor for the movie read R-rated.

This did not come as a surprise to those who knew the anti-hero.

But when the trailer debuted, it was rated 12A.

Recently, however, Variety reported Venom may be getting a PG-13 rating after all (akin to a 12A rating in the UK).

Variety described how some of the executives at Sony believed Venom should toe the line of PG-13, doing its best to remain authentic without crossing over into a higher rating.

But why?

Sony’s feeling is the lower rating will allow the studio more ease to create future instalments of Venom, which could have a Spider-Man cameo.

If Venom is too dark it could also prevent a crossover with other MCU movies, most of which stay on the kid-friendlier end of the rating scale (Deadpool being the only exception.)

The story is not your typical positive superhero movie – a story of a guy who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes a better version of himself.

Instead, Venom is a tale of two beings in one body, a Jekyll and Hyde situation, where you’re never quite sure who is going to win.

Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock and Venom, alongside Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Riz Ahmed, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom follows the attempt of journalist Eddie Brock to revive his career by investigating the Life Foundation.

He comes into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with him, giving him superpowers as long as they share the same body.

But how long can they live in the same body before Venom takes over completely?

Audiences will have to wait and see.
