Based on the 2014 novel of the same name, Crazy Rich Asians is the romantic comedy long awaited.

While Crazy Rich Asians is still a long way from its UK release date, excitement is mounting.

The movie has been heralded for putting the experience of Asian-Americans at its forefront, and have a cast chockablock with actual Asian actors (not Emma Stone).

Critics have similarly praised the production and performances of the ensemble cast of Crazy Rich Asians.

Who is in the Crazy Rich Asians cast?

The movie stars comedian Constance Wu as Rachel Chu, the longtime girlfriend of Nick, played by Henry Golding.

Golding, a Malaysian Iban and English actor is joined by British castmate Gemma Chan as his cousin, Astrid Leong-Teo who is stuck in an unhappy marriage.

American rapper Awkwafina, who appeared in Oceans 8, plays Rachel’s best friend and former college roommate, Goh Peik Lin.

But of course, with any good romantic comedy, there are plenty of pitfalls to the main couple’s happily ever after.

Playing Nick’s domineering mother Eleanor Sung-Young is Michelle Yeoh, while his grandmother and matriarch of the wealthy Singaporean family Shang Su Yi is played by Lisa Lu.

Chris Pang plays Colin Khoo, Nick’s childhood best friend and fiancé to Araminta, played by Sonoya Mizuno.

The sheer volume of the cast is indicative of the complex relationships between the characters, all of whom have multilayered motives and desires.

The plot of Crazy Rich Asians follows Rachel as she accompanies her Nick to his best friend Colin’s wedding in Singapore.

The synopsis continues: “She’s also surprised to learn that Nick’s family is extremely wealthy and he’s considered one of the country’s most eligible bachelors.

“Thrust into the spotlight, Rachel must now contend with jealous socialites, quirky relatives and something far, far worse — Nick’s disapproving mother.”

Rachel’s own mother Kerry Chu is played by Tan Kheng Hua.

Other cast members include Ken Jeong as Peik Lin’s wealthy father Goh Wye Mun, Nico Santos as Nick’s second cousin Oliver T’sien, Ronny Chieng as Nick’s cousin and Fiona’s husband Eddie Cheng, Victoria Loke as Eddie’s wife from Hong Kong and Nick’s cousin-in-law Fiona Tung-Cheng.

Also on the cast list are Remy Hii, Selena Tan, Janice Koh, Koh Chieng Mun, Jimmy O. Yang, Jing Lusi, Pierre Png as Astrid’s husband, Fiona Xie, Amy Cheng, Kris Aquino, Carmen Soo, and Harry Shum Jr.

The novel, written by Kevin Kwan was published on June 11, 2013, and by August 2014, producer Nina Jacobson acquired rights for a film adaptation.

Jon M. Chu was hired as the director for Crazy Rich Asians after giving a visual presentation about his experience as a first-generation Asian-American to executives.

Crazy Rich Asians holds an approval rating of 92 per cent on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Crazy Rich Asians is in UK cinemas on Friday, November 2, 2018
