Ghost Stories DVD and download release: When is Martin Freeman's Ghost Stories out?

Ghost Stories stars the Sherlock Holmes actor Martin Freeman in his creepiest role to date.

The movie follows Professor Phillip Goodman (played by director Andy Nyman) as he debunks supernatural mysteries and rumbles fake clairvoyants.

What starts as a straightforward horror movie turns into a deeply troubling psychological thriller, taking audiences for a funny, insightful ride.

With a sharp script and astute use of the horror-genre tropes, Ghost Stories is unexpectedly one of the best horror movies this year.

But for true horror aficionados, the Blu-ray edition is worth waiting for.

Featuring extras, commentaries, and behind the scenes features, the Blu-ray release is available on August 27.

A reminder for click-happy fans – purchasing a Blu-ray disc means it can only be played on a Blu-ray player, so be sure to check your hardware before ordering.

Ghost Stories is rated 15 by the BBFC, but anyone susceptible to extreme reactions from horror movies should make sure they’re not holding any drinks when they watch.

The expert use of classic horror genre effects – pop scares, haunting music, and surrealist scene changes – make Ghost Stories a true fright fest.

BBFC writes: “Frequent, sustained scenes of supernatural threat and horror include people being pursued by ghosts, a decomposing body and a demonic figure.”

Further disclaimers should be made for frequent conversations around suicide – though the actions are far from condoned.

The Blu-ray special includes a note from the directors, Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson.

The pair said: “To be able to now bring our own film to DVD and Blu-Ray so you can have it at home is yet another dream come true.

“As if making the movie wasn’t enough of a ‘gift from the gods’ to us, compiling the extras for this release has been incredible, too.

Other cast members include Alex Lawther, the breakout star of the Netflix series The End of The F***ing World.

Paul Whitehouse, the inimitable British actor from The Fast Show and more and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith from Doctor Strange, The Split, and many other British TV series also star in this horror flick.
