Princess Diana’s death was 21 years ago today. On the anniversary of the tragic event, many will be looking back on the life of a woman who inspired so many.

The stunning Princess of Wales inspired many with her humanitarian work, but also with her sense of style, which influenced the fashion industry in ways which can still be seen today.

As the wife of the heir to the throne Diana wore many incredible gems, which she is said to have left to her sons to give to their wives.

Now Prince Harry, 33, is married to Meghan Markle, 37, and Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 36, are married, we may start seeing more from Diana’s incredible private collection.

Princess Diana had numerous stunning jewels in her collection.

The Princess of Wales was lauded for her sense of style, which was reflected in her jewellery.

Diana wore many jewels from the royal collection, but also had her own impressive collection.

What has happened to Princess Diana’s jewellery?

Before her death the aristocrat stated she would leave her jewellery to her sons, so that they may give her gems to their wives.

Meghan Markle was seen wearing one piece, a stunning aquamarine and diamond ring which Diana used to wear on her ring finger after her divorce.

The Duchess of Sussex wore the piece to her wedding reception, along witha Stella McCartney gown.

The engagement ring

Diana’s engagement ring was left to her sons, who agreed whoever become engaged first would give the sapphire and diamond piece to their wife to be.

As Prince William was the first to propose he gave the ring to his wife-to-be Kate Middleton.

How much is Diana’s engagement ring worth now?

The Saudi Suite

This stunning collection of jewellery was made with Burmese sapphires and baguette diamonds.

It consisted of a necklace, a bracelet, earrings, and a watch and bracelet, which were later turned into a choker. Diana wore the suite to the National Film Institute Dinner at the Royal Festival Hall in December 1981.

It is not known what happened to the whole of the set, but Kate Middleton has worn the earrings, which she modified into a drop style.

The sapphire choker

This sapphire choker, originally a brooch, was a gift from the Queen Mother to Diana on her wedding day.

It is thought that diamond from the piece are the ones used for Prince Harry’s fiancee Meghan Markle’s engagement ring.

The pearl bracelet

This bracelet was designed by Nigel Milne in 1988.

Kate Middleton now has it and she wore it in Berlin at the Clärchens Ballhaus in July 017 on her and William’s final night of their German tour.

The Collingwood pearl and diamond earrings

These stunning earrings now also belong to Kate, who wore them at the Spain state banquet in Jul 2017.

Numerous other pieces that Diana famously wore actually never belonged to her, but were from the royal collection.

These include the Lover’s Knot Tiara and an emerald choker.

An expert revealed to Express.co.uk the second secret love story behind Meghan Markle’s engagement ring. Do you know what it is?
