Crazy Rich Asians is still two weeks away from its UK debut.

However, the movie is going strong in North America, particularly in the USA where Labor Day weekend has pushed it towards its estimated $30million weekend.

The movie, based on the novel of the same name, was initially expected to gross $30 million during the last weekend of August.

Now the estimate has gone down slightly to $28 million for the four-day American bank holiday.

How much money has Crazy Rich Asians made at the box office?

Crazy Rich Asians finished at the top of the weekend box office for the third weekend in a row.

Overall, the rom-com has made $110 million domestically (North America).

Its opening weekend takings of $26,510,140.00 topped the box office.

For the few overseas territories Crazy Rich Asians has already premiered in, the takings have been equally good.

Cumulative profits from overseas are just short of $20 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

In Australia, the movie garnered $5.4 million its opening weekend making it the largest opening for a rom-com in the Australian market ever.

With Crazy Rich Asians’ UK release date of September 14, it is likely another huge jump in profits will follow.

This is also the third week in a row in which Crazy Rich Asians has led the box office.

The Labor Day weekend ticket sales have proven the movie to be an even greater success than first anticipated.

Since last weekend, there has been a decrease in earnings of around 10 per cent – not a huge drop in the grand scheme of things.

Crazy Rich Asian’s sole competitor is another WB hit – The Meg, which has come in second place for the third weekend in a row at the box office.

Estimates for the romantic comedy have been compared to the success of The Help, solely for its similarities as a novel to movie adaptation, where the novel was purportedly aimed at women.

However, Crazy Rich Asians is far surpassing The Help, and will likely reach $175M, maybe more, according to Deadline.

Also according to Deadline, Crazy Rich Asians Labor Day takings are higher than those of The Help.

According to The National Association Of Theatre Owners (NATO), this summer’s box office in North America has made 14.6% more than the previous summer.

Summer 2018 will likely finish as one of the top five summers for movie-going.

Crazy Rich Asians is out in UK cinemas September 14, 2018.
