Avengers 4: Does THIS photo CONFIRM time travel after Infinity War deaths?
Reddit user SuperheroNick has presented a photo taken by Zoe Saldana last year – in which she is wearing the same Gamora costume from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy era.
It’s noticeably different from what she wore in Avengers: Infinity War, in which she met an unfortunate demise at the hands of Thanos (Josh Brolin).
The photo she shared last year – in which Karen Gillan’s Nebula can also be seen – was taken at the time both Infinity War and next year’s Avengers 4 were being shot back-to-back.
While the above Reddit user has suggested this potentially confirms the long-suspected prospect of time travel in next year’s sequel, that may not be the case.
Saldana’s involvement in confirmed, for sure – she said in interviews at around the time of Infinity War’s release that she would be back for reshoots this autumn – but there’s still the possibility that we’ll get flashbacks rather than time travel.
It’s also possible that whatever Saldana and Gillan were filming at the time has been completely jettisoned in reshoots anyway, rendering this whole discussion moot.
But whatever the case, it’s undeniable that time travel has been a prominent fixture in fan theories and speculation over recent months.
Over the weekend, one especially popular theory wondered if Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) had already time travelled in Infinity War, thus laying the groundwork for the sequel.
But, of course, everything remains unconfirmed by Marvel until the release of the movies – and it’s unlikely that even the elusive trailers will give too much away.
Infinity War ended with many MCU favourites perishing as Thanos collected all six Infinity Stones – thereby winning the ability to wipe out half of all humanity with one snap of his fingers.
Gamora was killed off much earlier: Thanos had to sacrifice her in order to get his hands on the Soul Stone.
It’s all but guaranteed that many of the fallen will be back somehow – not least because many of them are confirmed to return for future films beyond Avengers 4.
One such person is Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, whose next film Spider-Man: Far From Home is already in production and pencilled in for release next summer.
Doctor Strange, all the Guardians of the Galaxy and King T’Challa – aka Black Panther – are also all ostensibly returning for more fun in the MCU.
Prior to the release of Avengers 4, Captain Marvel will introduce the world to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers next March.
Avengers 4 follows on April 26, 2019.
