Star Wars: Anakin moment in Revenge Of The Sith exposes how SIMILAR Jedi and Sith are

A fan on Reddit has re-watched the finale to the prequel trilogy and noticed a stark similarity between the behaviour of Palpatine and Mace Windu.

User DonutSoda wrote in a post that has been 96% Upvoted: “After Anakin kills Dooku, Palpatine says ‘he was too dangerous to be kept alive,’ which Anakin laments, saying ’it’s not the Jedi way.’

“Later, Mace Windu tries to kill Palpatine, echoing the same line ‘he’s too dangerous to be kept alive,’ which Anakin again says is not the Jedi way.

“At that moment, Anakin realized that the only thing separating the Jedi and the Sith was ‘a certain point of view.’”

The similarities between Jedi and Sith have always been nuanced and complex, throughout the entire Star Wars saga – and one of the big motifs of The Last Jedi was Anakin’s son Luke Skywalker calling for the Jedi to end.

One person commented on the post: “People also criticise Anakin’s fall and say hey should have just talked about it with the Jedi, except he did! Anakin almost immediately went to Yoda after his bad dreams and Yoda said, ‘Death is a natural part of life, you must learn to let go.’

“It isn’t until later on he talks to Palpatine who tells him about unnatural powers to prevent death.

“Combine this with Anakin realising the Jedi act exactly the same as the Sith (at least in that particular situation) and his quick decision to strike at Mace Windu makes more sense.”

Last week another post on Reddit relating to the prequels caught fans’ attention: the fact that, when played in sync, Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi have some incredible parallels.

Most notably, towards the end of the films, a moment of Obi-Wan talking to Anakin as he finally succumbs to the Dark Side aligns precisely with Luke talking to him in Return of the Jedi just as he rises back to the light – moments before his death.

And as Anakin dies in Return of the Jedi, it’s the exact same point in the running-time as him getting consumed by flames in Revenge of the Sith – effectively the ‘death’ of Anakin as we knew him before becoming Darth Vader.

What’s more, a moment of Obi-Wan standing over pre-childbirth Padme as he realises she is close to death aligns second-for-second with Luke being with Vader during his passing.

A shot of Palpatine’s shuttle flying in to save soon-to-be-Vader syncs up with a shot of Luke flying out on his shuttle too.

And when Padme lies in labour shortly before she herself dies, a similar shot plays in Return of the Jedi of Vader’s body lying on a funeral pyre.

More eerie moments like this can be seen on a 2016 YouTube upload which plays all six films from the prequel and original trilogies at the same time.

The Skywalker saga ends with Star Wars: Episode 9, due for release in 2019.
