Avengers Infinity War: Marvel movies slammed by Game Of Thrones star – for THIS reason

The superhero blockbusters have been enormous financial successes but they haven’t been without criticism.

Marvel was among the studios slammed by GLAAD recently for its total lack of LGBTQ+ representation on-screen.

Where characters thought to be LGBTQ+ have appeared – such as Valkyrie and Korg in Thor: Ragnarok and Okoye in Black Panther – their sexualities and love interests have not been mentioned at all on-screen.

What’s more, none of the recurring top-tier cast members are known to be openly LGBTQ+ (Valkyrie star Tessa Thompson, herself bisexual, has only been seen in one film).

Harington, for one, is unimpressed.

“There’s a big problem with masculinity and homosexuality that they can’t somehow go hand in hand,” the Jon Snow favourite told Variety.

“That we can’t have someone in a Marvel movie who’s gay in real life and plays some super hero. I mean, when is that going to happen?”

Kevin Feige, the Marvel boss, has recently promised that diversity in sexual orientation will soon be seen on-screen.

In a brief exchange with The Playlist, he answered “yes” when asked if an out LGBTQ character is en route.

He also said “both” when asked if it’s heroes we’ve already seen, or new arrivals.

“Both ones you’ve seen and ones you haven’t seen,” he clarified.

Valkyrie is known to have survived the attack on the Asgardians at the start of Infinity War, although whether she went on to survive Thanos’s Snap remains to be seen.

Fans will next visit the MCU early next year with Captain Marvel’s solo film – set in the 1990s and set to introduce Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers.

Avengers 4 then follows next spring, though the title for it has not been announced just yet.

That ensemble epic will mark the end of the current phase of Marvel movies, before a new raft of heroes take the reigns.

Avengers 4 is out on April 26, 2018.
