Ant-Man and the Wasp NEW TRAILER teases Quantum Realm ahead of Avengers 4 (WATCH)
Neither Paul Rudd nor Evangeline Lilly were in Avengers: Infinity War, which launched in cinemas last week to record-high numbers.
But with both of them due to appear in Marvel‘s 2019 sequel, their upcoming solo adventure should explain their whereabouts.
The trailer, launched this afternoon, also reintroduces us to the Quantum Realm; the dimension Ant-Man shrunk to in his first caper.
The new villain, Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) is using stolen Pym tech to access the Realm, which Ant-Man and the Wasp can also use.
It’s been speculated that the Quantum Realm could have some kind of involvement in 2019’s Captain Marvel or Avengers 4 – so could Ant-Man and the Wasp set this up?
Speaking to Inverse last year, scientist Dr Spiros Michalakis – who was consulted – said: “This is a place where the nature of reality changes around you.
“So, when you enter the quantum realm, its different set of laws takes hold.”
This is also an exciting movie as it will introduce Michelle Pfeiffer to the MCU, as Lily’s on-screen mother.
The trailer doesn’t show any sign of her, but she did pop up on the new poster – released yesterday.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Vulture earlier this year: “I don’t want to say too much, but I will say that’s she’s every bit as iconic and amazing in this part as you would imagine.
“People ask sometimes about movie stars and star power and who’s the most exciting person to be around, and the truth is that once you get to know them as people, they don’t feel like movie stars — everybody is just a super-impressive human.
“But in a room full of movie stars, Michelle Pfeiffer rises to the top.”
He added: “You can tell how big Michelle is, because all the other movie stars are going, ‘Is that Michelle Pfeiffer over there?’”
Rudd’s absence from Infinity War was not confirmed in advance, leading him to face awkward questions at the LA premiere last week.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is out on August 3 in the UK.
