On July 4th 1918, the Cinematic Universe’s Steve Rogers – Captain America himself – was born.

While he may still look young and sprightly, he was frozen for almost 70 years.

And now the MCU’s Cap has finally hit is 100th birthday, as celebrated by Marvel on social media today.

The First Avenger has been working hard at catching up on pop culture and history and is certainly getting better at understanding the 21st century.

But in terms of the MCU timeline, how exactly will Cap be celebrating today?

Well sadly it’s not looking so good after the events of Avengers Infinity War.

While the movie timeline may be a bit all over the place, we know the Marvel epic took place in 2018, since Tony Stark refers to the events of Avengers Assemble taking place “six years earlier” in 2012.

It’s not clear as yet when Avengers 4 will be set, although recent speculation surrounding concept art and set photo leaks suggest a long period of time will have pasted since Thanos’ snap in Infinity War.

So we can only imagine Cap, sadly, isn’t having the best 100th birthday, since a load of his friends are now dust, including best buddy Bucky.

He’s also a little confused about his national identity, having stripped off the stars from his uniform and taking on something of the Nomad mantle after becoming a fugitive in Captain America: Civil War.

While this all sounds rather sad, fans shouldn’t lose heart.

Cap has appeared in Avengers 4 concept art which seems to prove he’s made up with Iron Man.

Not only that but he’s back in his old patriotic suit, with hair cut and clean shaven face, ready to save the day.

What better way to start his second century than to work out how to reverse Thanos’ snap?

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
