Avengers 4: Chris Hemsworth confirms sequel is ‘even MORE shocking’ than Infinity War
The as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 will be out in May 2019, picking up from the devastating deaths of its predecessor.
Infinity War ended with Thanos collecting all of the Infinity Stones, thus wiping out 50% of humanity – including swathes of Marvel favourites.
Hemsworth’s Thor was among those who survived, but that doesn’t mean it’s plain sailing going forward.
“If you were shocked by [Infinity War], I think the second one is even more shocking, for other reasons entirely,” he told Esquire.
“That’s what kind of blew me away the first time I read both scripts, is how they managed to orchestrate so many different characters but give them each their own separate shot and moments, and have it be elevated and feel fresh and unique – not just like a messy, thrown-together assembly of these guys.”
It’s interesting that he says the new movie will be shocking “for other reasons entirely” – could the film surprise us in ways that don’t involve a high body count?
It has long been assumed that many of those who died will somehow be brought back, but Chris Pratt – who plays Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (one of the victims of the Snap) – has hinted that that’s not necessarily the case.
In a new interview, he confirmed his return to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 but played down assumptions that it would be set after Avengers 4.
“I’m slated to film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in January, so we don’t know yet, time-wise, where that lines up,” MovieWeb quotes him as saying.
“I’m hoping it’s not the last time you’ll see me [in the Marvel Cinematic Universe], but I can’t be sure.”
Before Avengers 4 is released, we’ll journey back to the MCU twice more.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is out this summer, and is set before the events of Infinity War. It should explain why Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily’s titular characters were not seen in the ensemble blockbuster.
Captain Marvel – Brie Larson’s introduction to the MCU – will follow next March; set in the 1990s.
Avengers 4 is out in May 2019.
