Avengers 4: HOW did Nick Fury know to call Captain Marvel? Doctor Strange role EXPLAINED

That end credit scene has set up the entire Avengers 4.

It has also left fans with 12 months to try and figure out exactly what happened.

If you pay close attention to Nick Fury’s reaction when everyone around him starts turning to dust, he doesn’t seem surprised. He knew this could happen and what has caused it.
He also already knows who he has to call.

How?

Perhaps the only thing that surprises Fury is that he is one of the people who is affected by The Snap and he barely has time to start swearing.

Clearly, someone has already told Fury to expect something like this and that he needs to call Captain Marvel.

There are only two possibilities.

The first points to the Sorcerer Supreme, but we are not totally convinced by this theory.

Reddit user WamsyTheOneAndOnly says: “Doctor Strange knows what happens in the future, he sets it up in fact. He knew that Thanos had to snap his fingers at that exact right time and under all these certain conditions for them to win. He’s setting up Captain Marvel’s return to Earth. I believe he’ll appear in the Captain Marvel movie and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel.”

“He warns him of an event in the future referring to the people turning to dust without warning, this is why Fury’s instant reaction to seeing Maria Hill turn to ash was to run to the pager, but what our good friend Sorcerer Supreme didn’t mention was the fact that he does not survive hence the “Mother Fu…” at the very end. We should also take note that the way he says it isn’t paniced or scared, he’s confident that Strange knows what he’s doing.”

It seems unlikely that Strange would time travel back to all this to soneone who is going to turn to dust. Unless it is all precisely part of Strange’s one vision of the only way to defeat Thanos.

Also, when does Strange do all this? It can only be during his flickering time travel/visions scene in Infinity War otherwise he would have warned people before. It all seems rather a stretch.

It seems much more likley that Captain Marvel and Fury will discover Thanos’s threat during the Captain Marvel movie (set in the 1990s).

At that time it may just have been one of many threats they foresaw and prepared for, otherwsie Fury would have spent the next 20 years preparing the world and the Avengers for Thanos.

Perhaps Captain Marvel heads off into the universe to find out more about tehe Mad Titan, or to deal with some other theat, but leaves Fury with the pager in case Thanos ever manages to gather all the Infinity Stones.  

It seems certain all will be revealed in the Captain Marvel, just months before Avengers 4 hits screens.
