Avengers 4: Is Thanos already DYING after Infinity War? Two massive clues
Fans should brace themselves for more major shocks.
Everybody has been racing around frantically trying to work out how the Avengers can reverse the Snap – whether with time travel, the Quantum Realm or something to do with CaptainMarvel.
Everyone is focussed on how to defeat Thanos. But the filmmakers keeps saying that nobody has come close, yet, to what will happen in Avengers 4.
They have, however, already given two huge clues about just how injured Thanos was by using the Infinity Gauntlet for The Snap. Is he already dying and Avengers 4 will be about something else entirely?
The home entertainment packages have already been released in the US, completed by the DVD and Blu-ray editions going on sale today.
They come complete with some hugely informative audio commentaries from both directors and both screenwriters.
This throws new light on those final scenes as Thanos is shown with the blasted and blackened Gauntlet, still reeling from Thor impaling him on Stormbreaker.
Now that fans are able to watch scenes over and over, it is also clear just how wounded Thanos is in the final moment when he staggers out of his hut to watch the sunrise.
His figure is bent and clearly badly hurt. He is not the powerful figure we saw throughout the preceeding movie, as he crumples to the ledge.
One the audio track, Joe Russo confirms: “See there, with his Gauntlet and the arm, the power that it takes to use all six Stones is signifigant and clearly damaged the Gauntlet and damaged Thanos permanently.”
Fans have focussed on the fact that the Gauntlet was clearly damaged, which meant Thanos had no way to wield the Stones again should he need to – for example if the Avengers attack or manage somehow to create another Gauntlet.
But what about the fact that Thanos himself is so “damaged” and where exactly did he go?
The scene itself seems purposefully framed as an end of days, a man’s last moments of peace as he lays down all his burdens. The fact that he is clearly on Titan, but not the destroyed and barren Titan of the present day, could mean one of two things.
Either he has used the Stones to time travel back into a more buccolic past, or forward into the planet’s revival.
Or he is in a heavenly form of his home. Perhaps he is not simply badly injured, perhaps he is already dead and passed into his own dreamed of version of the afterlife?
Avengers: Infinity War DVD will be released in the UK on September 3.
