Avengers 4: Is THIS Infinity War moment a HUGE clue on how Thanos will be defeated?
There’s a moment in Infinity War when Thor attacks him with Stormbreaker and he says in reply: “You should have aimed for the head.”
Was he really goading Thor, as we were perhaps led to believe, or was he giving him useful information for further down the line?
Reddit user ElephantErik thinks Marvel‘s biggest villain is “self-sabotaging” and, in a theory that has been 77% Upvoted, wrote: “Fans of the comics like to point out that Thanos is intentionally self sabotaging because he subconsciously doesn’t want to win.
“We even see hints if this in Infinity War where we see his motivation as something he believes he has to do but necessarily doesn’t want to do.”
They added: “We know that there are time travel elements in Avengers 4 and we even have multiple sources hinting that once the characters are dusted, they are dead. End of story.
“Using this information, it could be a possibility that the Avengers will have to replay the events of the final battle with Thanos in Wakanda.
“At this point, Thor may correct his mistake and taking Thanos’ advice, aim for the head.
“This is interesting because it is very possible that Thanos knows all about this turn of events. He did state to Stark that ‘You aren’t the only one burdened with knowledge.’
“Thanos has the completed Infinity Gauntlet and it would be completely possible for him to know his end fate. If this were true, then Thanos may be 100% self sabotaging and may be playing into a greater end game where his death would result in a greater good that he wanted all along.”
The future of Avengers 4 has been very difficult to speculate over, given the little information that has been divulged by directors the Russo brothers and the writers.
Most of the theories seem to stem from the moment in which Doctor Strange looks at all the possible outcomes of the battle with Thanos – and sees only one that is possible.
Later, he then spares Iron Man and surrenders the Time Stone – a marked contrast to his earlier attitude – seemingly with knowledge that it was the right thing to do.
Whatever the case, we still have the best part of a year to wait until we get answers – with not even the title expected to be revealed until the back end of 2018.
Avengers 4 is out on April 26, 2019.
