Avengers 4 title leaked? Why latest 'End Game' rumour is probably NOT be real

Fans tracked down the CV of cinematographer Trent Oplaoch, on which was listed Avengers: End Game.

This then set off a spark of hype, with many assuming that End Game will in fact be the subtitle of next year’s sequel to Avengers: Infinity War.

The title takes its cue from what Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) said moments before he turned to ash thanks to Thanos initiating the Snap.

So whilst it is a neat and very appropriate title – there is one major problem.

In a recent interview, directors the Russo Brothers specifically said that the title of the new movie did not relate to dialogue spoken in Infinity War.

Asked outright by Uproxx if the title is “ever spoken” in its predecessor, Joe Russo said “no”.

Pushed further, Anthony Russo elaborated: “It’s certainly grounded in the narrative that we have been following throughout the MCU – very well grounded.”

This interview specifically came about when Avengers: End Game was a title that fans were theorising about, so it seems safe to assume that it will not be the new blockbuster’s moniker.

So why is it on Oplaoch’s CV? Perhaps there’s every possibility that even he doesn’t know the title yet.

After all, Marvel operates with such intense secrecy, there’s every possibility that only those at the very top of the chain know what the title is.

And while the cinematographer is certainly a very important person indeed, it’s not out of the question for the movie’s working title to have just been Avengers 4, with only the likes of the Russos, the writers and Kevin Feige knowing the actual name of it.

Avengers 4 is out next year and by all accounts will draw a line under the current phase of Marvel movies.

Before then, Ant-Man and the Wasp will be released (US this week, August 8 in the UK) and Captain Marvel is set to follow next spring.

Avengers 4 is out on April 26, 2019.
