Avengers Infinity War ending symbol: What did the post-credit scene mean?
Avengers: Infinity War ended not with a bang but with a slow disintegrating to dust.
True to Marvel form, however, Infinity War featured a post-credit scene.
The special insignia which symbolises hope for the Marvel Cinematic Universe left fans scrambling to Google to decipher what it could mean for the future of the Avengers.
Comic fans will know instantly what the symbol stands for, but casual movie-only fans have yet to get a glimpse of this exciting new character.
Warning: Avengers: Infinity War spoilers ahead.
What did the post-credit scene mean?
As Nick Fury realises what’s happening, he hurries to make one final attempt at salvation.
Out of all the technology Fury has at hand, he reaches for a device which looks like a flashy 90s beeper – what designers in the 90s might have imagined the future to be.
As he disintegrates, he sends out one last distress signal (luckily, his hand is the last to go).
The symbol which appears on the pager is blue and red with a gold star on the front.
MARVEL: IS ANT-MAN AND THE WASP THE LAST MARVEL MOVIE ON NETFLIX?
This is the symbol of Captain Marvel, and she may be the Avengers’ only hope for resurrection.
Captain Marvel is said to be one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s strongest superheroes.
However, her history may not be known to all.
Carol Danvers started her comic career as a US Air Force officer.
She gets her powers when an explosion causes her DNA to combine with her Kree co-officer, an alien named Mar-Vell (played by Jude Law in the movie).
The Kree are a race of blue-faced aliens, technologically and scientifically far more advanced than humans.
Captain Marvel has a lot of superhuman powers thanks to her alien friend and some of them could be invaluable to defeating Thanos.
Her powers include enhanced strength, durability, and the ability to channel and fire photonic energy blasts from her hands.
AVENGERS INFINITY WAR EASTER EGG: DID YOU SPOT CAPTAIN MARVEL TEASER?
Before she makes her appearance in Avengers 4, however, the Captain Marvel solo movie set for a March 8, 2019 release date.
Brie Larson plays the eponymous hero, with plenty of familiar faces by her side.
Clark Gregg will appear as a younger version of Phil Coulson, the agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Samuel L Jackson is also reprising his role as a younger Nick Fury, the very man who links her to the present day Avengers storyline.
Closing out Infinity War with a symbol representative of hope came as something of a balm to fans who were left bereft.
Captain Marvel is in cinemas on March 8, 2019.
