Thanos has been going around recently demanding everyone’s silence.

When he wasn’t doing that, he was busy carving a shocking path of death and destruction across the universe.

If you have the movie already you will know exactly how badly that ended for everybody. But did you spot the blink-and-you-miss-it enormous clue about what comes next in Avengers 4?

If you haven’t seen Infinity War stop reading now or the Mad Titan might do something terrible like Snap his fingers.

The movies ends as most fans had feared.

Thanos finally locates all six Infinity Stones, kills most of their protectors and then does The Snap. It may sound like a funky 1970s dance, but is is actually even more terrifying, as half of all life is instantly erased across the entire universe.

After his moment of triumph, there is a fleeting but monumentally important shot of the Gauntlet. It is crumpled, blackened and appears destroyed. This will have huge consequences.

Thanos had the Gauntlet made by the very unwilling Dwarf king Eitri so that he could wield the Stones.

No mortal can use any of the Infinity Stones, or even hold them, in their bare hands. Every Stone has always been shown in a scepre, staff, Tesseract or casket.

Ronan the Accuser needed his Universal Weapon (that huge staff) and when Star-Lord took the Power Stone he was only able to bear holding it for seconds, even when sharing the burden with his fellow Guardians. And remember, Peter is half-Celestial.

If the Gauntlet has been destroyed in the moment of being used, Thanos will not be able to wield the Infinity Stones again.

Of course, at the end of Infinity War, Thanos does not want to ever use the Stones again. He has achieved his greatest desire to bring ‘balance’ to the universe and started his peaceful and self-satisfied retirement.

That is unlikely to last, but the task for the remaining Avengers in the next film will not be to directly challenge and defeat Thanos. No longer possessing the will or ability to use the Gauntlet, he cannot be the primary villain in Avengers 4, at least in the current timeline/reality.

It will be a long wait until next year to fnd out exactly what, how and ‘when’ will take place…
