Avengers Infinity War: Is this how Captain America will leave the MCU – WITHOUT dying?

A theory potentially explains how Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers can leave the Marvel family without being killed off, as many have suspected.

And indeed, if he doesn’t meet a sticky end, at least the door will always be open for him to return in the future.

User knoxvile10 shared the theory on Reddit, stressing that they saw it posted by another fan on Instagram first.

“So the entire theory revolves around time travel being a big plot point in Avengers 4,” they began.

“It doesn’t matter really what they use it for but just that it is used.

“The theory speculated that once Thanos is defeated and half the universe is brought back, Steve Rogers uses whatever they’ve been time traveling with to go back to 1940 and stay there with Peggy Carter to live out the rest of his life with her.”

They added: “This way it’s an emotional sendoff to one of the most beloved characters in the MCU and it completes his character arc.”

Time travel has been touted often as a potential solve to the problems created in Infinity War, which of course involved 50% of humanity being wiped out.

We already know that Captain America will, whatever happens, have much more to do in Avengers 4, after writers and directors promised that those who seemed to have relatively little screen-time in Infinity War will come to the foreground next time around.

Evans has stressed that these movies mark the end of his contract with Marvel, and he hasn’t convincingly said he’s interested in signing a new one.

“You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he told New York Times earlier this year.

Infinity War remains the box office event of the year, having smashed the record for the biggest opening weekend ever in the USA.

Fans can revisit the MCU twice more before Avengers 4: with Ant Man and the Wasp in the summer, and Captain Marvel in March 2019.

Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
