Avengers Infinity War: Truth behind Captain Marvel credits scene revealed by THIS theory?

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.

In the credits scene for the Marvel smash, Nick Fury is seen making a call on a pager-like device to – it’s safe to assume – Captain Marvel.

This is in the midst of Thanos’s Snap, turning half of all living things to ash, including Fury himself.

Fury acts incredibly quickly in contacting Marvel – real name Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson) – and fans have been speculating about how he instantly knew to try reaching her.

Now, a fan theory by user xmr10 on Reddit, which has been 83% Upvoted, could shine a new light on it.

“How and why did Fury know it was the time to call Captain Marvel without knowing about Thanos and why didn’t he call Marvel for any other world-ending events in other films?” they asked.

“My theory is this; Fury knew it all along and it was one of the survivors from the future who told him about the Snap. This explains how and why Fury knew it was time.

“When fighting Thanos, [Doctor] Strange has looked into the future and saw all the possibilities and their outcomes.

“I believe that by looking into the future, Strange could’ve become aware of the existence of Marvel and her whereabouts. He wouldve known that only with her, they will have the only chance to win against Thanos.

“Problem here is this; During the snap, Marvel isn’t near Earth (or anyone) to know whats going on. What I think is going to happen in the upcoming Captain Marvel film is she will gain her power, get to know Fury, defeat her enemy and triumph.

“But because of her power being so great and the possibility to harm people around her, she will hide herself in a safe place where she could do no harm to anyone. (This is why no one seems to know about Captain Marvel in MCU).”

The theorist continued: “So Strange will send a person (or himself) to the past for the person to meet Fury and tell him to make one promise with Captain Marvel before she leaves.

“To come back to Earth just one time. One time when this beeper rings. That’s the only time people of Earth and the Universe will perish without her almighty power. The time of ‘Code Red’.

“This is why Fury didn’t call Captain Marvel for other incidents. He knew that the Earth will survive no matter what because the person from the future has told him.

“And this is why he used the beeper as soon as he recognizes that the time has come.”

Larson will make her on-screen MCU debut in the Captain Marvel movie, set in the 1990s; due for release next March.

Avengers 4 then follows on April 26, 2019.
