Avengers Infinity War: Upcoming marvel movies – what movie is next?

To help fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe recover from the deaths of their favourite superheroes, there are some new faces on the horizon, and some familiar ones returning.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6, 2018 or August 3 in the UK)

Peyton Reed is returning to direct Paul Rudd as the eponymous Ant-Man, in a film of the same name set in-between the events of Civil War and Infinity War.

Evangeline Lily joins him as the Wasp, the first female superhero to get her name in the movie’s title, to help him fight crime.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishbourne are also set to join the cast as Janet Van Dyne and Dr Bill Foster respectively.

Randall Park will also star as Jimmy Woo and Walton Goggins will play the villain.

Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019)

Captain Marvel was teased to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans in the post-credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War.

Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, is also likely to appear in the fourth Avengers film, but her solo film premiers two months earlier.

Ranked as number 11 on IGN’s Top 50 Avengers, Captain Marvel is poised to be the Avengers’ saving grace.

A United States Airforce officer, Carol Danvers became superhuman when her DNA was fused with her Kree alien co-officer’s during an explosion.

It is rumoured that some of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters will appear in her solo movie.

Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck confirmed that some familiar faces, like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser, will also appear in the film.

Avengers 4 (May 3, 2019)

The still unnamed fourth Avengers movie marks the end of “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Many of the stars’ contracts expire with this fourth instalment, including Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Robert Downy Jr. (Iron Man), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow).

Presumably, however, Black Widow will survive as Disney has hired someone to write an unconfirmed solo Black Widow movie.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (July 5, 2019)

Tom Holland is contractually obligated to star as Peter Parker in another two Spider Man films, so fans have plenty to look forward to.

Zendaya will also appear as Mary Jane, though Robert Downy Jr.’s Iron Man will not reprise his mentoring role.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2020)

Director James Gunn said the film will be the “epic conclusion” to the Guardians of the Galaxy story, but there are few public details beyond that.

He also suggested the film will likely come early in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Black Panther 2 (TBD)

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has already confirmed Black Panther 2, though a release date is unknown.

He added his hopes of director Ryan Cooler returning for the sequel, alongside stars Chadwick Boseman and Lupita Nyong’o.

Hinting at spinoff films, Feige told Entertainment Weekly: “I think Shuri is astounding, and you’ll see much more of her in our universe.”
