BBC News: 'My career is OVER' Simon McCoy in SHOCK admission to BBC weatherman live on air

The BBC News veteran sarcastically read a report of 15 dogs and their owners competing in a swimming and running race on the Croatian island of Rab.

While a clip of the race was shown to the viewers, Mr McCoy read: “15 dogs and their owners jumped from a boat 100m off their island.

“They swam to shore and then they jogged back to the bar.

“After the swim, the pets were also challenged to an eating and drinking contest with dog-friendly ice-cream and beer.

“This is Bonny, a white poodle. And Bonny won.”

As the camera shot returned to the studio, Mr McCoy appeared puzzled and unimpressed with the report.

He turned to BBC Weather forecaster Darren Bett to introduce the weather segment when a giggling Mr Bett asked him: “Career is going well, is it?”

To which Simon McCoy replied: “Mine is over, let’s try and salvage yours.”

The BBC host is famous for his quirky live TV moments, always jumping at the first opportunity to make a joke with his fellow presenters.

Last month, he teasingly blamed BBC meteorologist Ben Rich for ruining the weekend of millions of Britons with his forecast predicting rain.

Addressing Mr Rich before his weather update segment, Mr McCoy said: “Let’s get the weather update. Ben Rich has that, he ruined a lot of people’s weekends. Ben?”

Feigning shock at the accusation, the BBC Weather presenter denied any involvement with the rainy turn of the weather that saw Britain awash with rain after a month-long heatwave. 

The meteorologist said: “It wasn’t my fault, Simon. But yes, it certainly was a little bit different over the weekend.

“After all the hot and sunny weather we’ve had lately, the rain came down.”
