Captain Marvel 2: Marvel boss teases Avengers Endgame sequel

This Friday the first female-led MCU solo movie is released before Captain Marvel joins her fellow superheroes in Avengers Endgame this April. And being a solo outing, it should come as little surprise that sequels are very much in the works. Iron Man, Captain America and Thor all had solo trilogies so fans shouldn’t put it past Captain Marvel, alongside Black Panther, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Ant-Man. Now Marvel boss Kevin Feige has teased, in the most cryptic way possible, what to expect with Captain Marvel 2.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Feige said: “The making of a first film is in some ways a brainstorm on the future and on what can be.

“So what it will be again is not clear. But what it could be is pretty amazing.” 

At first, it may seem he’s not revealing much at all – after all Feige wants to keep the future of the franchise a secret for now.

However, it can be argued that he’s hinting Captain Marvel is foundational for Marvel Phase 4, even before Avengers Endgame is released.

With Captain Marvel being a period piece – set in 1995 – maybe her sequel will be set in the present day.

This is what happened with Captain America. The First Avenger took place in the Second World War, while The Winter Soldier was set today.

Larson’s powerful superhero is expected to be the new figurehead of the MCU, as Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man bows out in Endgame – either in retirement or death.

This is exactly what Feige teased back in June last year at CineEurope.

According to one attendee, Feige presented footage and teased that Captain Marvel would head up the franchise moving forward.

The Flick reports: “CAPTAIN MARVEL featurette has been shown at CineEurope today. Captain Marvel is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe”

Perhaps she’ll lead the Avengers in a battle with the X-Men in a couple of years?

Captain Marvel is released in UK cinemas on March 8, 2019.
