Captain Marvel Brie Larson’s teen POP career revealed: Star UNRECOGNISABLE in music videos

Larson released her debut and only album Finally Out Of P.E. back in 2005; about the ups and downs of her life as a teenager. She was only 16-years-old when the record was released, and 15 when she launched its debut single She Said; complete with a music video in which she looks virtually unrecognisable. That track has almost 100,000 spins on Spotify and over one million on YouTube – so could her pop days win some sort of cult popularity now she’s bossing the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

She Said’s lyrics actually send out a sentiment Carol Danvers herself would endorse: a young woman keen to step out of her comfort zone and see how far she can go.

Larson sings: “I might hit the ground, but at least I’ll have a story to tell.

“She said, I’ve got to find out for myself.”

The track poked its head inside the Top 40 in the US, but the album did not: Finally Out Of P.E. reportedly sold fewer than 4,000 copies.

Larson is of course now a phenomenally successful actress, and even revisited her musical roots as she and Captain Marvel co-star Samuel L Jackson recreated Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s Oscars performance of Shallow over the weekend.

She also sang in the 2017 musical comedy Basmati Blues – although given its abominable reviews and accusations it faced over the perpetuation of racist stereotypes, it wasn’t a shining moment.

Still, Larson has put her acting career hand-in-hand with pushes for social progress; particularly in terms of representation for women and people of colour.

She recently attracted the ire of internet trolls when she vowed to help under-represented journalists gain access to film junkets.

When she was bizarrely misinterpreted as being “against white men”, she clarified with Fox 5 DC: “It’s hard for me to comment on that because I don’t know what the headlines were or what was said or what I said or what people think I said.

“All that I know is, what I’m looking for is to bring more seats up to the table. Nobody is getting their chair taken away.”

She added: “There’s not less seats at the table. Just more seats at the table.”

Captain Marvel is out on March 8.
