Captain Marvel cast: Who does Jude Law play in Captain Marvel?
Yesterday’s internet-breaking trailer for Captain Marvel stirred up a lot of excitement.
Marvel fans have been waiting a long time for the trailer, whose release date was teased way back in June by Marvel head Kevin Feige.
When the trailer finally arrived, fans took to Twitter to share their delight.
Though he appeared only briefly, fans were treated to a look at Jude Law in something other than a behind the scenes still.
Who does Jude Law play in Captain Marvel?
Jude Law’s character can be said to be, in part, Captain Marvel’s namesake.
That’s because he is Mar-Vell, a Kree alien who is responsible for making Captain Marvel into the superhero she is.
Jude Law plays, for all intents and purposes, a man named Walter Lawson.
Lawson is Carol Danvers’ mentor in Starforce, the intergalactic military unit she joins.
CAPTAIN MARVEL POWERS: HOW DID CAPTAIN MARVEL GET HER POWERS?
But there is more to Walter Lawson than meets the eye.
Law’s character is actually a Kree alien himself, named Mar-Vell.
It is Mar-Vell who kicks off the entire saga when a freak accident leads his DNA to fuse with Carol Danvers’.
Once her powers surface, Mar-Vell trains her how to use them and becomes an even closer mentor to the officer.
Speaking of his character, Law said: “Mar-Vell is driven by a belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people.
“So he’s almost a devout warrior — unquestioning, conservative, but inspirational,” Law told Entertainment Weekly.
When Carol Danvers was first introduced to the comic scene Water Lawson was actually the one to hold the moniker of Captain Marvel.
Jude Law’s Walter Lawson may not have a lot of screen time since Captain Marvel isn’t an origin story.
The movie picks up with Danvers’ already having received her powers.

However, Mar-Vell is an integral part of her team, and will likely be given some powerful moments in the movie.
Captain Marvel’s trailer gives us only a brief look at Law’s character, but Brie Larson has hinted at his presence on screen.
In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly, Larson said: “There’s a lot and back and forth that comes with the two of them, which kind of creates a little bit of tension with the rest of Starforce.”
“Like, ‘Why do they have a special relationship, and why isn’t it me?’” Larson added.
Fans can expect to see the tensions unravel when Captain Marvel comes to cinemas on March 8, 2019.
