Captain Marvel: Is THIS the first OFFICIAL glimpse of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers?
Granted it’s not a film still or, better, a trailer – which fans are still waiting patiently for – but given that hardly anything has been released by Marvel yet, this will do nicely for now.
The fan account @CaptMarvelNews has shared on Twitter snaps of some official Captain Marvel merchandise: notebooks.
One of them has a picture of a suited-up Larson on the front cover; and though it’s not the HQ image the world is still waiting for, it’s still an exciting step in the right direction.
The Amazon entry reads: “Assemble your heroic notes and ideas with this notebook collection inspired by Captain Marvel.
“Celebrate hero Carol Danvers and her exciting entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this notebook set featuring imagery from Captain Marvel.
“Each notebook contains sixty-four ruled, acid-free pages of high-quality paper that invite fans to record their own heroic adventures. This set of notebooks is a must-have for fans of Marvel.”
As for a full trailer, the wait continues.
As pointed out by ScreenRant, comparing the publicity timeline to this year’s Black Panther has already proven moot: that film’s first teaser came out in June 2017 ahead of a February release, so if Captain Marvel was following the same pattern, we’d already be a month late.
Earlier this year, Marvel boss Kevin Feige spoke very coyly about when we can expect it.
“I think there’s still a few months [to wait],” he revealed in late June, as part of an interview with Comicbook.com.
“You already know as much as you need to. We’ve got Skrulls, we’ve got the Kree, it takes place in the 90s, you have Sam Jackson with two eyes and Carol Danvers, a unique telling of Carol Danvers origin story.
“We are about two weeks out from completion of principal photography.”
Now filming has finished, hype is intensifying, especially seeing as there are no other MCU blockbusters due for release in the meantime.
Captain Marvel will be almost immediately followed by Infinity War sequel Avengers 4, which will also star Larson.
That will seemingly draw a line under the current era of Marvel storytelling, with Spider-Man: Far From Home then expected to be unveiled in the summer of 2019.
Captain Marvel is out on March 8, 2019.
