Captain Marvel release: When does Captain Marvel come out? Cast, plot and movie leaks

The cliffhanger ending of Infinity War opened up the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a whole host of exciting options. 

All hope is lost for Earth’s mightiest heroes, as Thanos hunts down all six infinity stones to wipe out half the universe. 

As Thanos finally snaps his fingers, obliterating half the heroes and population in the universe, Nick Fury sends a mysterious SOS message via a retro looking pager.

As he disintegrates, the pager responds, hinting at the arrival of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

Who is Captain Marvel? 

Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers, is one of the most powerful cosmic beings capable of immense power, and she just might be able to help to restore life to the universe. 

Danvers, previously a pilot in the US Air Force, has an unfortunate altercation with a Kree alien called Mar-Vel, giving her untold power. 

She is known to have superhuman durability, strength, speed and the ability to fly. 

She can also control and manipulate cosmic energy, firing powerful energy projectiles from her hands.

Possessing a keen military mind, Captain Marvel is a born leader who will be looking to round-up the remaining Avengers to take on Thanos once more. 

The Captain Marvel film is rumoured to be set in the 1990s telling the origin of her powers, as well as her connection to Nick Fury and the rise of S.H.I.E.L.D.

In the comics, Danvers is closely connected to two warring alien races, the Kree and the Skrull. The Skrull are a shapeshifting race able to take on the appearance and powers of anyone in the universe, making for an interesting potential plot for Avengers 4. 

When will the Captain Marvel movie be released? 

A Captain Marvel film is slated for March 2019, two months before Avengers 4, with Carol Danvers being played by Brie Larson.

Rumours have swirled over what the plot may be and how it will impact the future of the MCU.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is scheduled for release July 2018, paving the way for the Quantum Realm to play a part in how the Avengers change the course of history. 

It is rumoured that we will find out how the former leader of S.H.I.E.L.D Nick Fury lost his eye.

Captain Marvel cast news

The film will be directed by Anna Boden, an American director famous for her work on Sugar and Half Nelson, featuring Ryan Gosling.

Captain Marvel has the honour to be not only the first Marvel film to be directed by a female, but also to have the starring role as a woman, Brie Larson. 

A young Nick Fury will be played by Samuel L Jackson. Returning character Lee Pace will reprise his role as Skrull warlord Ronan the Accuser. 

Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn will take part in an unspecified role, while Jude Law will take on the role of Mar-Vell.

Djimon Hounsou will also feature as Korath again after his stint in the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
