Avengers: Infinity War is the third installation of the Marvel blockbuster success – and the nineteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) over ten years.

Fans have been eager to catch a screening of the hotly-anticipated film – with their mouths dropping to the floor as a teaser ending left the film on a major cliff hanger.

In a post-credits sequence, Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury was shocked to witness The Snap taking place – as a result of Thanos collecting all of the Infinity Stones, giving him the power to wipe out half of humanity.

Fury collected a mysterious communication device and hurriedly sent out some kind of message, which the screen said was “SENDING”.

When it went through, Captain Marvel’s recognisable logo showed up on its screen – indicating the female superhero will make an appearance in Avengers 4.

Captain Marvel, also known as Carol Danvers, is one of the most powerful cosmic beings capable of immense power, and she just might be able to help to restore life to the universe.

A Captain Marvel film is slated for March 2019, two months before Avengers 4, with Carol Danvers being played by Brie Larson, so expect some Avengers 4 build-up in that film.

The Captain Marvel film is rumoured to be set in the 1990’s telling the origin of her powers, as well as her connection to Nick Fury and the rise of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The film will see how a two-eyed Fury first came across Carol, and how she became Captain Marvel as Earth is caught in an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.

So it can only be presumed that once she’s tackled her solo outing’s villains, including Guardians of the Galaxy’s Ronan the Accuser, she will stay off Earth.

However Fury will be given a device that can call on her, should the Earth ever be compromised beyond what S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers can handle.

In the comics, Danvers is closely connected to two warring alien races, the Kree and the Skrull.

The Skrull are a shapeshifting race able to take on the appearance and powers of anyone in the universe, making for an interesting potential plot for Avengers 4.

Fans had been speculating that Carol Danvers will make an unannounced appearance in the film, perhaps in a post-credits sequence.

Even though Larson is only officially slated to arrive in her own solo movie next spring before getting in on the action in Avengers 4, many had wondered if Marvel would surprise us.

Ultimately, Captain Marvel did have a part to play in Infinity War as her logo was beamed onto cinema screens across the globe – but Larson herself was not seen.

Avengers: Infinity War has had huge success so far, amassing the top-grossing opening weekend ever in both the US and worldwide.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the next entry in the saga, due for release in the summer (and set before the events of Infinity War), while Captain Marvel – also set beforehand – arrives in the spring.
