Chris Pratt and Guardians of the Galaxy stars show support for James Gunn after dismissal
Over the weekend the director and writer of the first two Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy films was fired over controversial joke tweets that resurfaced.
Gunn may have apologised, but Disney dismissed him for his decade old tweets being in conflict with the studio’s values.
Since then Guardians of the Galaxy stars have shared their support for Gunn via their own Twitter accounts.
Pratt shared a Bible verse from the New Testament book of James, perhaps referencing the director’s first name on purpose.
The Star-Lord actor wrote: “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters. Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. JAMES 1:19.”
Meanwhile Saldana tweeted: “It’s been a challenging weekend I’m not gonna lie.
“I’m pausing myself to take everything in before I speak out of [turn].
“I just want everyone to know I love ALL members of my [Guardians of the Galaxy] family. Always will.”
Nebula star Gillan said: “Love to every single member of my [Guardians of the Galaxy] family.”
While Pom posted a video where she wrote: “We are Groot. We are a family. We stand together.”
But Michael Rooker, who played Yondu actually deleted his whole Twitter account.
A now deleted statement read: “This account will be inactive after today. We’re very tired & upset over the ongoing BULLS–T… neither I nor my rep will use Twitter again.
“Twitter sucks and I want nothing to do with it. Thank you to all who gave kind words & support. See you on Instagram.”
Over the weekend Drax star Bautista very bluntly said he was “not okay” with Gunn’s firing.
The former wrestler also accused “cybernazis” of being the reason for Gunn’s firing.
Also the director’s brother Sean, who plays Kraglin and on-set Rocket in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, wrote a ten tweet statement backing up his sibling.
A petition for Gunn’s reinstatement as director on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is already in the hundreds of thousands.
