Christopher Robin is the must-see family-friendly movie of the summer

Starring everyone’s favourite honey-obsessed bear, Christopher Robin also stars Ewan McGregor as the grown-up protagonists of AA Milne’s story.

With a screenplay by Alex Ross Perry, Tom McCarthy, Allison Schroeder, the movie is directed by Marc Forster, known for making children’s stories grown up after he directed Finding Neverland.

The live-action/CGI extension of the beloved Disney franchise, Christopher Robin has taken the box office by storm.

How long is Christopher Robin?

Perfect for the short attention spans of children, Christopher Robin runs an hour and 44 minutes.

With plenty packed into the just-shy of two-hours, Christopher Robin features a star-studded cast.

Hayley Atwell pays Evelyn Robin, Christopher’s wife, while Bronte Carmichael pays Christopher’s daughter Madeline Robin (a young version of Madeline is played by Elsa Minell Solak).

Mark Gatiss plays Christopher’s boss, Giles Winslow Jr, with Oliver Ford Davies as the father of Giles Winslow Jr.

The voice actors are Jim Cummings as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger.

Brad Garrett voices Eeyore, Nick Mohammed as Piglet, Peter Capaldi as Rabbit, and Toby Jones as Owl.

Sophie Okonedo lends her voice to Kanga, a toy kangaroo and the mother of Roo, voiced by Sara Sheen.

Other on-screen actors include Ronke Adekoluejo, Adrian Scarborough, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Ken Nwosu, John Dagleish, Amanda Lawrence with a cameo from Mackenzie Crook as a newspaper seller.

With such a wholesome cast and story, it’s no wonder families all over are flocking to the cinema.

Is it suitable for under 5s?

According to the British Board for Film Classification, Christopher Robin is rated PG.

PG is a general viewing classification, with the caveat that some scenes may be unsuitable for young children.

A movie rated PG should not upset children aged eight years old and up.

While unaccompanied children of any age may watch, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children.

Long story short – Christopher Robin is likely suitable for five-year-olds, but parents may want to exercise their own discretion.

The PG rating (as opposed to a G rating) comes down to the qualities of threat and violence.

BBFC writes: “Christopher Robin, alone in a misty wood, hears scary noises and panics.

“After he hits his head, he has a vision of being underwater where a menacing elephant made of bubbles catches him in its trunk.”

The violence reference is a scene at the beginning of the movie relating to WWII.

“Early in the film, there is a brief wartime battle sequence in which the hero escapes flames and explosions while bullets zip around him,” the classification continues.

“There is no sight of bodies or injury.”

Though neither violent nor a threat, BBFC also notes: “There is use of very mild bad language (‘God’), and a brief scene of bereavement in which it is implied that a young boy’s father has died.”

Christopher Robin is now playing in cinemas.
