Daniel Craig was cast as Ian Fleming’s spy in 2005, aged 37-years-old, but his first experience came at just five-years-old. The future star went to see Live and Let Die at the cinema in 1973. However, Roger Moore’s first Bond movie was “terrifying” for the young Craig.

Speaking at Entertainment Weekly’s Around The Table with other No Time To Die stars, Craig said: “I saw Live and Let Die at the cinema, which was Roger Moore’s first movie.

“[It] was terrifying [and] had a major effect on me. I ended up playing James Bond. Ta-da!”

New Bond villain Rami Malek asked: “What was so scary about it?”

Craig reminisced: “Just sort of all the voodoo and it kind of like…a guy with a machete, but it was great.”

The 51-year-old added: “And there’s a boat chase through the Everglades in Florida, which was really intense, yeah it was great.”

Meanwhile, Malek revealed his first Bond experience was a Sean Connery classic.

The Oscar winner said: “It was on the TV with my father.

“And I think it was either Dr No or Goldfinger – both great!”

Fans have suspected that Malek’s Safin is secretly Dr No, or at least inspired by the first official Bond film’s baddie.

As for No Time To Die’s Bond girls, Léa Seydoux and Lashana Lynch, the pair hadn’t seen a 007 movie until Craig’s first, Casino Royale.

The incumbent Bond joked that that just made him feel old.

Craig also reiterated that No Time To Die really is his final James Bond movie, while producer Barbara Broccoli has admitted to being “traumatised” now he’s done.”

Speaking with Variety, Broccoli said: “I’m in total denial.

“I’ve accepted what Daniel has said, but I’m still in denial. It’s too traumatic for me.”

Having been roped in for No Time To Die after saying he’d rather slash his wrists than make another Bond movie after 2015’s Spectre, Craig has put his return down to her persuasiveness.

He said: “Barbara doesn’t take no for an answer.”

Craig continued: “It’s not in her wheelhouse. I had a nice long break, which I really needed.

“And then she was just persistent and came to me with some ideas, which we started formulating, and I got excited again.”

Indeed, Broccoli promises No Time To Die is “an emotionally satisfying conclusion” for Craig’s incarnation.

No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on April 2, 2020.
