Dark Phoenix trailer tonight will reveal why this is NOT an X-Men movie: Is this the END?

After a long wait and lots of troubling rumours of a difficult shoot, Dar Phoenic will finaly unveil teh first look footage tonight.

The teaser trailer will be shown live on US television the Late Late Show tonight and will immediately cross over onto the internet.

Turner herself tweeted the news: “Dark Phoenix. Tonight on @latelateshow with @j_corden@xmenmovies #darkphoenix See you there.”

UK fans eager for their first glimpse of the rebooted X-Men universe will have to stay up way past their bedtime or get up at the crack of dawn.

The trailer will drop during the show, hosted by British star James Corden.

The Late Late Show is broadcast live in the US and starts at 12:35am Eastern Standard Time, which is 5:35am in the UK tomorrow morning.

Obviously the trailer wont be the very first item on the show so fans may have to wait a while.

In the US the movie will be released with the prefix X-Men, signalling this will be very different from the main franchise, but why? 

The recent phenomenal critical and box office success Logan demonstrated how a powerful superhero drama can stand apart from its parent franchise.

Dark Phoenix will also be very focussed on its title character, rather than the group dynamic of the main X-Men movies. And, like Logan, this is a storyline that promises to go far darker into weighty drama than usual. Turner has modestly claimed that her movie will “redefine” the entire superhero genre.

But it is more than just that.

The X-Men franchise has been troubled thorughout its run by wildly varying tones matched by a hugely varied, and often negative, reception from fans.

In the recent rebooted timeline First Class and Days of Future Past were much stronger entries but the most recent Apocalypse faltered.

20th Century Fox may feel that dropping the direct X-Men association will allow Dark Phoenix to stand on its own feet. 

Furthermore, this is the final X-Men movie in the entire saga from the very first 2000 entry with no other reported plans to continue.

Dark Phoenix might not just stand apart from the X-Men it could mark the end of the entire cycle. Will Jean Grey’s transformation end up destroying the entire X-Men universe as we know it?
