Deadpool 2: Who is Terry Crews? Who is the actor who played Bedlam?

Dead pool 2 actor Terry Crews appeared in from the the US Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday to discuss sexual harassment.

The Bedlam actor has alleged he was groped by a Hollywood boss in front of his wife at an event.

Who is Terry Crews?

Terry Crews’ spot as Bedlam in Deadpool 2 was not his first foray into major motion pictures.

Before Crews got his start on the screen, he made his living on the American-football pitch as a defensive end and linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins.

Crews moved to Los Angeles, California in 1997 to pursue an acting career.

And it didn’t take long for Crews, with his huge size and affable personality, to make his way onto the screen.

Crews played Julius Rock on the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris, written by Chris Rock, but broke into the Hollywood blockbuster world as Hale Cesar in The Expendables series, appearing alongside stars like Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.

But most people will know him as the yoghurt-obsessed, larger-than-life but loveable Seargent Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Recently, Crews has been in the news for a reason totally unrelated to film, television, or football. The #MeToo movement.

Crews yesterday testified before the American Senate Judiciary Committee on the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights.

The Deadpool actor drew on his own experiences as a victim of an alleged assault during his heartfelt and moving testimony.

According to Crews, a Hollywood agent groped Crews’ genitals at a party in 2016.

Crews filed charges but nothing could be done as the statute of limitations had run out (the alleged incident occurred in February 2016 and Crews reported it in November 2017), a common problem facing many victims of sexual violence.

Crews went on to explain how he did not come forward initially about the incident for fear of retaliation or not being believed, another difficulty many victims face.

He said: “What happens is you get blacklisted, your career is in danger — after that, no one wants to work with you.”

“What happened to me has happened to many many other men in Hollywood, and since I came forward with my story I have had thousands and thousands of men come to me and say ‘Me too, this is my story’ but I did not have the confidence, or I did not feel safe enough, to come out.”

For Crews’ role in coming forward with the allegations, he was named one of the Silence Breakers from the Time Person of the Year award in 2017.

Fans of Crews won’t get to see him in any more Expendables movies, nor in X-Force (as his character Bedlam sadly didn’t make it out of the Deadpool sequel).

But they’ll be happy to see him return to Brooklyn Nine-Nine which, after being cancelled by Fox was picked up by NBC for its sixth season.

Crews’ life story – from growing up with an abusive father to football star to comedic actor – is inspiring all on its own, and his courage to speak out about a prolific problem not only in Hollywood but industries all over endears him to audiences that much more.
