Doctor Doom movie: Is THIS Downton Abbey star seriously playing the Marvel villain?
San Diego Comic-Con has been full of huge trailer debuts and major franchise reveals.
The latest news follows hot on the heels of the announcement that Fox is going ahead with a standalone Fantastic Four spin-off, centred on the iconic villain.
The Doctor Doom movie will be written and directed by Noah Hawley, the creator of the smash hit FX superhero TV show Legion.
A blogger who was at the panel in San Diego has revealed that Hawley is also taking Legion’s leading man along with him.
Legion is the next US small screen hit for the very British star Dan Stevens.
The actor became famous worldwide when he portrayed the doomed Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey.
His role as the complicated and possibly slightly crazy David Haller, who escapes from an asylum when he realises he actually has incredible powers, has gained him a whole new followng base of sci-fi and comic book fans.
Now the US fan site BleedingCool is reporting that Stevens could be about to step into the cloak and mask of an even more powerful supervillain.
The site reported live from the Legion panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
It said: “The biggest surprise came towards the end when showrunner Noah Hawley revealed he is working on a movie for Fox, which he said he could only say two words about: ‘Doctor’ and ‘Doom’. Dan Stevens is working on it to some capacity, though it was not revealed what role he has.”
Since the Doom movie is unlikely to be an ensemble piece, it seems most likely that the actor will be playing the lead role.
