Donald Trump protest single American Idiot climbing UK charts: Can Green Day hit No1?
Donald Trump will arrive in the UK for his first official visit on Thursday evening, after claiming that the UK is “in turmoil.”
While he is expected to avoid Central London and protesters, a giant balloon baby has been authorised by London Mayor Sadiq Khan to fly over Parliament Square Gardens.
An online petition entitled “Prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom” was signed by 1.86million people.
Meanwhile, a movemnet to return Green day’s iconic anthem to the top of the UK charts on Friday is gathering pace.
The facebook page says: “Simple. When President Trump arrives on UK soil for his visit on Friday 13th July 2018, American Idiot will be the official No.1 single. Are you in?
Mr Trump is expected to land in London on Thursday, July 12, following a Nato summit in Brussels.
He will travel straight to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, where Theresa May will host a black-tie dinner for him and his wife Melania with 100 guests and ministers.
It has also been confirmed that the US president will be meeting the Queen at Windsor Castle.
American Idiot previously hit Number 3 on the UK charts in 2004.
Then it was seen as a criticism of the current US President, George W Bush, but the band has been equally vocal in its disapproval for the current White House resident.
At Green Day concerts the band often lead chants like: “NO TRUMP, NO KKK! NO FACIST USA!”
The current campaign is gaining pace but still has a way to go to actual top the charts.
Green day’s America Idiot rose three places in the mid-week chart placings to hit Number 20.
Whatever the final position, it is unlikely to the only, or the most visible criticism of Donald Trump during his controversial visit.
