Downton Abbey: First set photos and all we know about plot, cast, and more

The Crawley family are making a return to screens but this time in a much bigger way.

Focus Features has set production with Carnival Films to begin this summer for a return to Highclere Castle.

The official Downton Abbey Facebook announced the news of a movie reboot with a post which read: “Welcome back to Downton! We’re thrilled to announce that Downton Abbey is coming to the big screen.”

When is the Downton Abbey movie out in cinemas?

As of yet, a release date is not known.

The project is a Carnival Films and Masterpiece co-production, but neither have given details on when it is set to come out.

Production has started today, with a photo posted to Instagram by Michelle Dockery.

Dockery plays Lady Mary in the TV series and has returned for the movie.

Who is in the cast of Downton Abbey?

Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, and Joanne Froggatt will all be returning to their roles.

When the film was announced, Michael Fox, who played footman Andrew Parker, tweeted: “This is all terribly exciting! #downtonabbey on the big screen… I should probably shave,” leading fans to presume he is returning as well.

Matthew Goode, who joined the TV series in its fifth season, is also appearing in the Downton Abbey movie – though “not a huge amount” he told This Morning.

He also said the cast was growing with new faces, though did not specify who.

Is there a trailer for the Downton Abbey movie?

As of yet, no trailer exists.

However, given the stars’ penchant for social media, it’s likely we’ll see some form of a teaser in one form or another.

What is the plot of the Downton Abbey movie?

Nothing is known about the plot just yet, and Goode was reticent to give away any details on This Morning.
