Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3: Dave Bautista SLAMS Disney for not rehiring James Gunn
Last week it was revealed that Gunn would not be rehired as director of Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
The news came even after the filmmaker and his representatives had had a meeting with Walt Disney Chairman Alan Horn.
Gunn had been dismissed for controversial joke tweets he wrote a decade ago regarding rape and child abuse.
But despite apologising and getting the backing of the Guardians of the Galaxy stars, Gunn will not be back as director.
Nevertheless Drax star Dave Bautista, who has been very vocal in regard to his support for Gunn, has taken a shot at Disney on Twitter.
The actor posted a Screen Rant article about the studio’s decision being a big mistake.
He wrote: “Thanks Disney!! Making America great again!”
The sarcastic remark was a reference to President Trump’s campaign slogan and what Bautista sees as Disney giving in to far-right trolls who resurfaced Gunn’s tweets.
Half a day later Bautista reposted the article and wrote: “I love this article so much I’m just going to tweet again.
“I’ll probably tweet tomorrow as well. Just in case!
“Just want to make sure everyone gets a chance to read ii because its brilliant!”
Just who will replace Gunn as director on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is yet to be decided, but there are some obvious contenders.
The most likely is probably Taika Waititi, since his Thor Ragnarok is a similar style, tone and setting to the Guardians movies.
Meanwhile The Russo Brothers are also contenders since they have directed the Guardians in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers 4.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is set for release in 2020.
