Jamie Lee Curtis is back as the woman who cannot be killed – Laurie Strode.

The movie, a direct sequel to the 1978 original, is heading to cinemas tomorrow (October 19, 2018) in the UK and USA.

And for horror fans, the rave reviews Halloween is getting can only be a good thing.

Those who grew up with the franchise are likely old enough to see it at the cinema but what about those younger fans wanting a taste of Halloween on the big screen?

What is the Halloween age rating?

According to the British Board of Film Classification, Halloween has an 18 certificate.

In the USA, the rating is R, which bars anyone under 17 from seeing the film unaccompanied.

The 18 certificate means “a film, video recording, or game should not be seen at home or elsewhere, watched in a cinema or purchased by a person under 18 years old.”

Though it seems self-explanatory (it is a gore fest), some are still wondering why the film was awarded such a high age rating.

After all, Venom has a 15 rating and the creature bites off people’s heads.

The BBFC does give its insights into the certificate for Halloween, saying: “Scenes include bloody stabbings, shootings, impalings, and a man being bludgeoned to death.

“In one sequence a man’s head is crushed, resulting in brief gory detail.

“Gory injury detail includes sight of a dead man whose jaw is hanging from his face.

“Prolonged scenes of strong threat occur in which people are stalked by a serial killer.”

Unrelated to the expected violence associated with the Halloween franchise are some language, nudity, and drugs issues.

The BBFC statement said: “There is also occasional use of strong language, breast nudity during a scene of violence, and infrequent scenes of marijuana smoking.”

The movie also contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

HEREDITARY AGE RATING: HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE? CAN YOU STREAM, PLOT

In America, every single Halloween movie has been rated R so the rating is no surprise to horror fans stateside.

France and Quebec have the laxest age rating for Halloween.

France gives it a 12 rating, while Quebec gives it a 13+, which in practice are equivalent.

In France, minors twelve and under are prohibited from seeing the movie, and in Quebec, those 13 and over can see it.

Strictest is the UK with its 18 rating.

Halloween is out in cinemas on Friday, October 19, 2018.
