Han may have a speedy way through the Kessel Run but this movie feels like it has taken ages to hit cinemas.

After years of wrangling and reshoots, the space smuggler has hit cinemas and early critic and fan reactins area lready whetting appetities for what comes next.

Han is a hit (and not just with the ladies).

Te movie packs soem serious surprises atteh end and leaves audiences hanging as Han rushes off towards, well, the sequel.

Leading man Alden Ehrenreich had already signed up for a potential four movies, but this is standard practice before a major potential franchise opens.

Had things gone badly, heads and hands would have been shaken and that would be it.

Opening box office figures are strong and reactions to the young star favourable, so now Disney can get stuck into showing fans what they have been waiting to see for over forty years.

Is the Star Wars franchise really about to get into drugs and dirty deals?

Solo: A Star Wars Story is an unapologetic origin story.

Now fans want to see all tose tings teasingly referenced in the original Star Wars trilogy and the ending of Solo, leads to smuggling, Glitterstim, bounty hunters and carbonite.

The ending teases Han and Chewiee flying off to Tatooine and the crime empire of Jabba the Hutt.

With ten years still to go until Han meets Luke and Obi-Wan in a bar, Disney has a lot of possible stories to choose from, but it seems certain they will start with the character that looms so largely (literally and figuratively) over Han for the next decade.

The rather naive and optimistic Han from the Anthology movie will be almost gone by A New Hope.

The bounty famously placed on him by Jabba is for a lost cargo of Glitterstim which Han has never shown any discomfort with handling and spreading across the galaxy.

Glitterstim was a potent variety of the drug family “spice” that mined on Kessel and gave the user a brief, yet pleasurable, telepathic boost and heightened mental state. Excessive use degenerated the nerves in the brain, resulting in loss of sight, twitching, nervousness, and paranoia.

Overdoses were frequent and sometimes resulted in death.

The next movie will surely chart Han’s descent into the darker underbelly of the galaxy and his own character.
