Harry Potter Cursed Child release date: Is there a Cursed Child movie?

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child is officially the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and a direct sequel to the original books.

It is a two-part stage play written by Jack Thorne and is based on an original new story by Thorne, J.K Rowling and John Tiffany.

The play follows Albus Severus, Harry’s young son and his friend, Scorpio Malfoy, the son of Harry’s Hogwarts nemesis Draco.

The story takes place 19 years after the final Potter novel, Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child won a record-breaking nine Oliver Awards after it broke onto the stage in October 2016.

Before it was released in the West End, J.K Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany said in a statement: “It is very exciting to explore Harry’s world in a brand new way through the live form of theatre.

“Collaborating on this story is exhilarating for all of us and we can’t wait to present the eighth story at the Palace Theatre next summer.”

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child proved to be so popular, it made its way state-side and opened at Broadway’s Lyric Theater in April this year.

Speculation is now rife the play could be made into a movie, owing to its success.

However JK Rowling has played down rumours of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child ever being made into a movie.

The author took to Twitter to dispel the rumours, which appeared to have been started on the Unofficial Universal Orlando podcast.

The podcast claimed Warner Bros had approached Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint about making a movie from the hit play.

J.K Rowling reacted to the speculation on the social media platform and said there was “no truth” to the rumour.

She wrote: “I know a lot of people are looking for reasons to be cheerful today, but there is NO TRUTH to the rumour about a #CursedChild movie trilogy!”

The author’s representative has even contacted Express.co.uk to comment on the matter.

A spokesperson said: “This type of trademarking is standard practice. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”
