The new horror movie hit UK cinemas last night and film fans are having quite the reaction.

Not only are they agreeing with the critics praising Hereditary as a five star “masterpiece”, but also commenting on the film’s genuinely terrifying nature.

The “deeply unsetting” film’s synopsis reads: “When Ellen passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry.

“The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.”

One film fan tweeted: “It is an emotional and terrifying torture experience, an exquisitely slow burn blood-curdling performance.

“To everyone else there, sorry – the shrill shriek at the back of the cinema was me.”

Another wrote: “My face has a perfect outline of my hand on the cheek from where my arm had gone rigid and wouldn’t budge.

“The film was phenomenal. A truly terrifying piece of art. Masterpiece.”

Of course a major problem after seeing the film was audiences not being able to sleep after seeing Hereditary.

One sleepless fan tweeted: “Just saw Hereditary by myself.

“I feel like I need to bathe in Holy Water before I ever sleep again. I am pretty sure the actual Devil wrote this movie.”

While another wrote: “This movie redefines horror movies and is so worth the hype.

“I’m going to have to sleep with the lights on or not sleep at all.”

Another said: “I had to sleep with Always Sunny streaming at full volume on the TV and all of the lights on because every time I turned them off I psyched myself into hearing alveolar clicks from the shadows. But it’s fine. I’m fine.”

Hereditary is out now.
