Hillary Clinton accuses Donald Trump of HYPOCRISY over missile strikes against Syria
Speaking at an annual luncheon in Texas on Friday, the failed presidential hopeful addressed Trump’s decision to launch missiles at Syrian military air bases.
She said: “The action taken last night needs to be followed by a broader strategy to end Syria’s civil war, and to eliminate ISIS strongholds on both sides of the border.
“So I hope this administration will move forward in a way that is both strategic and consistent with our values.”
But Clinton followed her comments with a thinly-veiled accusation of hypocrisy at the President over his position against the US accepting refugees from Syria.
She said: “I also hope that they will recognise we cannot in one breath speak of protecting Syrian babies and in the next, close America’s door to them.”
Clinton has returned to the public eye recently after an extended hiatus following her humiliating defeat in November’s presidential election.
On Thursday, she expressed support for bombing Syria at the Women of the World conference during a talk with New York Times columnist Nick Kristof.
She said: “I really believe that we should have and still should take out his air fields and prevent him from being able to use them to bomb innocent people and drop sarin gas on them.”
Clinton also compared Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to Vladimir Putin in an attempt to explain his psychology.
She said: “He is absolutely a prisoner of his family’s expectations, his dead father’s looming presence and his delusion, that I believe he now probably could pass a lie detector about, that everyone who opposes him is a terrorist.
“That is how Putin thinks.”
