Incredibles 2 sequel: Will there be an Incredibles 3?
Incredibles director Brad Bird hasn’t ruled out a third Incredibles movie.
Bird spoke with Entertainment Weekly to talk about Incredibles 2, and the plenty of plot ideas and characters who didn’t make it into the sequel.
Reasonably, fans are wondering if this means there will be a third movie where these characters will make their way to the big screen.
Disney’s Pixar moved Incredibles 2 release date up by almost a year, leading Bird to scrap some of his original ideas for the movie.
He compared the creation process for Incredibles 2 to an infamous scene from the American classic comedy I Love Lucy.
Bird said: “It’s like the episode of I Love Lucy when she’s got the candies piling up on the conveyor belt.”
“[Incredibles 2] was like that. They took a year off our schedule, so if an idea didn’t work quickly, you had to just kill the darling and move onto the next.
“I killed like a city full of darlings.”
Bird had other plans for Incredibles 2 characters which had to be abandoned, including a totally different villain.
Incredibles 2’s main villain was the character Screenslaver.
Screenslaver was brought into the Incredibles 2 development process late in the game given the film’s updated release date.
The [Incredibles 2] characters and storyboards which didn’t make it into the sequel haven’t been wholly abandoned.
Bird told EW “You know, you never say never, because there might be an opportunity to use it. Maybe the idea shows up in a different film.”
You never know how these things are going to get repurposed.”
Bird added: “There were a lot of ideas that we had on this film that could be [used] . . . whether it’s another Incredibles film, or something else.”
The Incredibles 2 director isn’t the only person keen for a sequel.
Samuel L. Jackson, who voices the family friend superhero Frozeone/Lucious Best told EW he’d like to see a Frozone/Mr Incredible origin story.
Sophia Bush who was new to the Incredibles franchise as the character Voyd said she would be interested in seeing more fierce female power between her new hero and Violet Parr.
Incredibles 2 producer John Walker also said he wouldn’t ever rule it out.
Here’s hoping a third Incredibles movie won’t take another 14 years to become a reality.
Incredibles 2 is in UK cinemas Friday, July 13, 2018.
